Build a versatile, ultra-durable steel target stand with the AR500 Combo T-Post / 2x4 Target Base – the ultimate hybrid foundation for mounting reactive targets on either T-Posts or standard 2x4 lumber. Proudly made in Central Texas by active Army service members, this rifle-rated base delivers veteran-crafted toughness and innovative design for reliable range performance.

Precision CNC laser-cut from military-grade 3/8" thick American-made AR500 steel with minimal heat-affected zones, it's engineered to withstand direct rifle impacts without failure. The bolted assembly (includes two 1/2" Grade 8 carriage bolts and nyloc nuts) sandwiches a standard or heavy-duty T-Post (1.625” or 1.635”) using included adapters, or secures a common 2x4 board (not included) without adapters for flexible setups. All edges are tumbled post-production for softened, safe handling and a premium feel.

Caliber Rating & Recommended Distances

Our 3/8" AR500 steel targets are rifle-rated and designed for exceptional durability across a wide range of calibers. To minimize surface pitting and extend target life:

  • .223/5.56x45mm: 100+ yards
  • 6.5 Creedmoor & .308/7.62x51mm: 150+ yards
  • Magnum rifle cartridges: 300+ yards
  • .50 BMG: 500+ yards

All standard pistol calibers are safe at any distance. For magnum pistol rounds (e.g., .44 Mag, .357 Mag), use 25+ yards.

These distances are conservative guidelines for optimal condition. Real-world testing shows outstanding performance at closer distances: 5.56 FMJ at under 20 yards leaves only minor marks, while high-velocity magnums like a custom 300 RUM (245gr Berger at 3100 FPS) at 300 yards produce no pitting. We've rigorously tested dozens of cartridges with excellent results, which is why we exclusively offer 3/8" thickness – delivering proven protection without the added cost and weight of thicker steel.
